Personal Progress-Divine Nature
I want to be better at writing here. My mom and my sisters started working on our Personal Progress and it has prompts for writing in your journal. I'm hopefully going to start recording my thoughts here along with regular life updates!
Value 1:
'Read "The Family: A Proclamation to the World", 2 Peter 1, Alma 7: 23-24 and Doctrine and Covenants 121:45. In your own words, list the divine qualities discussed in your reading. Think about how you can discover and develop each of these qualities. Record our ideas in your journal. Here's the list I came up with:
Diligence
Faith
Virtue
Knowledge
Temperance
Patience
Godliness
Brotherly Kindness
Charity
Prayer
Repentance
Forgiveness
Respect
Love
Compassion
Work
Humble
Submissive
Gentle
Good works
Long suffering
Patience
Temperate in all things
Diligent in keeping commandments
Ask God of what you need
That's a lot! A lot of these are tough too! Not qualities that come easily to me. I've been struggling lately to keep my mindset positive. I just have been feeling so grumpy and frustrated. Today I fasted for strength and I feel like I received a lot of answers in our Relief Society lesson. But as I sat down to work on Personal Progress this afternoon I realized that this also answers my plea to feel better. If I cultivate these qualities I will have a happier, more positive attitude. A lot of these qualities tie together. If you work on one you're really working on several. I'm trying to work on charity, humility, brotherly kindness, respect, and humble. I basically just want to love everyone. I fall in to the trap of comparing myself way too easily. I decided if I pray for meekness and charity it will be easier for me to just love others instead of compare myself to them. Because really when I compare myself I'm also judging them. It takes a conscious effort at this point to not feel bugged or hurt by things and to just feel happy for others. I also have a sharp tongue and I can speak before I think. I'm trying to work on speaking kindly and not saying judgemental or hurtful things about people or even to people! This is a long list but it really can be summed up in one word: love. If you have a love of God, love of self and love of others than you possess all these other traits as well. So I'm going to pray for love. I'll make a conscious effort to only speak kindly and to work on my thoughts and actions so they line up with love.
