Water & Sun

I love summer!! I'm always so excited when the weather starts to warm up. One of my favorite things about summer is spending time in the river, lake or reservoir. Last summer was hard and we ended up doing nothing fun! Between Theo being a newborn and buying a fixer upper house we really didn't have time to spare for fun. When summer started to creep back in to our lives I couldn't wait. I had all these fun plans and ideas. After all have four reservoirs within 30 minutes of our house and seven (or more) within one hour and the river is literally on our street. We went fishing several times and played on the shore of the reservoir a few times. But just last week I decided summer is almost over and we haven't taken the kids out on our boat or really spent more than an hour at any water spot (on a side note I haven't been camping even once this summer!). Sam has had to take a lot of time off work this summer and none of it was for anything we wanted to do. It was all for extended family things or for Scouts. So we really haven't had time to go out and do anything fun that we wanted to.

When my parents came out for my brothers wedding they were kind enough to watch our kids for an afternoon while Sam and I ran the river but that's really the only thing we've done.

When Sam and I were dating and first married we spent so much time out in the river. Kayaking, floating and just playing around. It was so fun and carefree! Now when we go out it takes a lot of planning and it's hard work! We spent the time and effort to pack the boat and inflate the boat to take the kids out on the reservoir. Turns out they don't like it and it only lasted about three minutes before we had to come back. They loved playing in the sand on shore though so we enjoyed a little time out there.

This family that lives close to us invited me and the kids to come play at their 'pit.' I had to ask what a Pit Party was because???..... There's this giant pit that fills with water on their ranch and they've built a zip line, slide, rope swing and diving board over it. They have tons of canoes and kayaks. It's a super fun hangout spot. My kids had a blast and it was really tough when we had to leave.
