Book Nook: Liberated Parents, Liberated Children: Your Guide to a Happier Family by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish

About a year ago, I read How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk by Faber and Mazlish. I got it for Christmas and was re-reading it when I saw a page in the back of the book suggesting this book. I checked it out at the library and read it within a couple of days. It's the same ideas and principles as How To Talk but with different stories and a little bit different of an approach. I loved it. I really relate to the principles these books teach. I have about 10 pages of notes I took from this book. It's basically about feelings. Teaching your children to recognize and deal with their feelings and for you to recognize how they must feel so you can deal with them appropriately. One thing this book focuses on that I specifically liked was parent feelings! I learned it's okay for a parent to feel what they feel. Permit your feelings and teach your children how you feel and how to overcome those feelings. The book taught about parents anger, guilt. and how to protect your family from your negative feelings while still teaching your children. Anyway like I said the main principle of the book is if you teach your children to recognize their feelings and appropriately deal with those feelings they will be easier to parent and teach because they can handle all their emotions. I could go on and on but that's the short version of the book!
