As of right now we are under contract on a home! Yay! Goodness sake it's been a year we've been looking and trying to buy a home and six and half years we've been dreaming of it. Our first realtor was a dud though I can't blame everything on him. We've been looking at homes in the Bountiful/Centerville area, Morgan, Coalville/Henefer, Kamas, Heber City, Park City, Wanship, and all over the Park City area. We've walked through so many houses. The housing marking in Utah right now is insane. Houses sell so fast you can't even get an offer in two days after the house is on the market. Prices are what we consider too high for what you're buying. Sam obviously being an architect would love a fixer upper. He enjoys doing the work and he thinks it would be fun to get a fixer upper. The problem is the fixer uppers are pricey! They are at the top of our price point and usually still need 70K-100K dumped in to them to be nice and livable. So we put finding a house on the back burner. Sam has thought about going to another state for a different job experience and he still has about one year until he becomes a licensed architect. So we figured we'd stay in our duplex until then and decide if we want to move to another state at that time. However, we were still watching the market and homes.
On Monday this home popped up on the market. It's about 2500 square feet, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 family rooms and an informal dining room. It's on 1/3 acre with a large workshop in the backyard. It's in a small mountain town and is about 35 minutes to Sam's work and right now we are about 45 minutes from Sam's work. He wouldn't have to drive on I-15 and could take I-80 straight to work. It would probably take him 30 minutes to get to work when right now with traffic it takes one hour. We were really excited after seeing the home. It is a fixer upper. It defiantly needs a lot of work but it had the space we need and a really great yard. We spent all day Tuesday getting our paperwork in to the mortgage broker. We were per-qualified before but that was almost a year ago so we wanted to do it again. The offer was sent Tuesday night and by Thursday morning we heard that they had accepted the offer! Wow!! We're so excited! We've now entered the due diligence portion of the process and we are just hoping everything checks out okay. I'm excited to track the changes to the home (if everything works out) and get started on the remodel. We also think it'll be fun to live in a small town! We're excited for that new experience.
The home buying process for us has been so frustrating, stressful, upsetting, exciting and just a huge emotional roller coaster. I'd be thrilled if this works out and we're able to buy a home. We've wanted a home for so long and have lived in such a small space for way too long. We'll see!
