Camping in the High Uintas

We kept meaning to go camping all summer. Looking back at our summer now I'm not sure what we were so busy with but somehow we had such a busy summer! We didn't get a chance to go camping until Labor Day weekend. We went up with Sam's family. It was so fun. I love being outdoors and enjoying nature. We brought up our raft and took it out on two different lakes while we were up there.

We ended up only actually camping one night because that night was MISERABLE. I think the kids would have done ok if our air mattress held up. We decided to use my in-law's queen air mattress instead of our own. I was on the air mattress with both kids and Sam was sleeping on a small cot. Within just a couple of hours I was basically on the ground and because I weigh so much more than both my kids they were high up on the air mattress and about to roll straight down on top of me. We had a huge two person sleeping bag and I was stuck between the side that was zipped closed and the weight of my two kids. I called out for Sam to help move the kids off me. He did and he decided to pump up the air mattress. Well he couldn't really pump it up with me on it. So as he's pumping he says "you might need to get off the mattress" and keeps pumping. I have to wave my arms like a crazy person to get him to stop pumping so he can hear me say "I'm stuck. I literally can't move." He tries to help me out of bed and with lots of rolling and crazy movements I get out. Then he pumps up the queen mattress for the kids. I end up on the cot he was sleeping on and he decides to pump up our twin air mattress we brought as a back-up. Only a few minutes later Theo woke up crying and looking for me. He crawls across the air mattress to find me on the cot. Of course he then bashes his head on the side of the cot so he's really howling at this point. Then Everly wakes up and only wants me. She won't go to Sam. So I've got two kids in this small cot with me. Sam decides it's better if I switch beds with him. So the kids and I move to the twin air mattress and he moves back to the cot. All this happened between 1-4AM. But after 4 we were able to sleep in until about 8. So the next night we came home to sleep then headed back up to the campsite in the morning to hang out with everyone.

We enjoyed a little hiking (more like just walking around our campground) but it was hiking to the kids. We all loved spending time at the lake even though one of the days it was FREEZING cold!!

As we were leaving to head up to the mountains, I checked the mail. Sam's Utah Architecture License was in the mail! Yay!! He waited to open it until we were up in the mountains over the campfire. He has worked so hard for this and it's awesome to see him finish!! I'm so proud :)
