Book Nook

I've enjoyed blogging about the books I've read so I can look back and refresh my mind on the material. I've finished a few books recently.

Lions of the West by Robert Morgan

This book took me forever to finish. I began in February and I had a hard time really getting in to it. I thought the author chose an interesting topic and something that must have been difficult to write about. He decided to write about what he called the 'heroes and villains of the west' meaning westward expansion. Each chapter tackles another person who contributed to westward expansion. He does a good job at describing the events that lead to the U.S. expanding west but I didn't agree with all of his arguments when it came to certain characters. I felt he was biased when approaching the Native American topic. It was easy to tell who he liked and didn't like which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it can get annoying while reading. All in all, I'm glad I finished (I wanted to quit several times!) but I probably won't read it again.

Tattooed Mormon by Al Carraway

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a short read, I read it during Everly's nap after church one week. It's uplifting and touching. I would recommend it to anyone! I liked Al's story about her conversion. She helps you feel loved by Heavenly Father and gave me a new perspective on my relationship with Him. This book makes you want to be a better person and gives you hope for your future. I think it especially made me want to pray more often and strengthen my prayers. I will defiantly read it again probably more than once.

Raising A Family Unto The Lord by Gene R. Cook

This book was good although it made me stressed and I feel like it put a lot of pressure on me. HA! There are so many area's I really need to work on. This book was helpful in giving ideas on how to raise a family close to the Lord. It's a little too HCM as my dad would say (Hard Core Mormon) for me. I liked how it encouraged me to be a better mom and to really teach Everly the gospel as she grows up. There were a few parenting styles that just weren't me and I don't agree that they would actually work unless your child has a certain type of personality. In conclusion, I felt inspired to be better and work harder to teach Everly the gospel and to strengthen my relationship with Christ and Heavenly Father but I defiantly won't be doing all of the tips or suggestions the author gives.

Twice Blessed by S. Michael Wilcox
This is my current read and I'll be doing a synopsis as soon as I've finished.
